April Wine Specials
Kris Pinot Nero 2006 (100% Pinot Noir) ~ Was $16.99...NOW $14.99!From the famed Franz Haas estate in Alto Adige, here is the first release of this incredible Pinot Noir. Kris Pinot Nero displays a young, fragrant and fruity style that is in keeping with the zone's production tradition. At the same time, however, it has a good structure and body so that it develops greater complexity. The coor is a light ruby red that resembles the tints of wild berries. The bouquet offers scents of red and black currants. On the palate the wine is dry with a good, elegantly balanced structure with notes of berries and currant. This one's a must try!
Tilia Malbec Mendoza 2006 ~ Was $8.99...NOW $7.99Named after the Linden, or Tilia, tree commonly found in Argentina, this wine possesses true varietal character and has come to the market at a value price. The Tilia tree can be found throughout the winer country of Argentina. The nose offers dense black fruit aromas with light violet notes and a touch of sweet toast. The mouthfeel is full and rich, with ripe, concentrated black currant and cassis fruit flavors with a touch of chocolate and sweet spice from light oak aging. what a bargain!
Zinful Thoughts Napa 2005 ~ Was $11.99...NOW $10.99Don't be fooled by the name or label, this Zinfandel is well worth twice the price. This Zinfandel explodes with ripe plums on the nose with flavors of raspberries, dried cranberries, boysenberry, blackberry and classic pepper. Pair this wine with BBQ, lamb, beef, pizza, pork, cheese...or just a glass!
WHITES:
Pepiere Muscadte Sevre et Maine, Loire 2006 ~ Was $12.99...NOW $10.99Marc Oliver hand harvests (a rarity in the region) uses natural yeasts, waits for the wine to finish and bottles with a very light filtration. The vineyards are in old vines (40 years and older) with a particularly good exposition on a plateau overlooking the river Sevre. All the vineyards are from original stock; Oliver is the only grower in the Muscadet who does not have a single clonal selection in the vineyards. This heroic vigneron does in Muscadet with old vines, granitic soils and low yields wheat others dream of in much more "serious" appellations. the 2006 Domaine de la Pepiere Classique Muscadet has now arrived. It is energetci, juicy and full of life, a cool crisp slice of the Muscadet soil tempered with snappy fruit. Don't delay.

Babich Sauvignon blanc Marlborough 2007 ~ Was $14.99...NOW $12.99
The aroma of lantana and wild herbs combines wiht tropical fruits and green apple. The palate is exuberant and intense fruit salad, nettles and fresh herbs burst into existence and continue through the length of the palate, joined at the end by lime/citrus and mineral notes. A powerful and lengthy Sauvignon. This wine works well with a white meat dish. Also great with oysters or a green salad!
Argiolas Costamolino Vermentino Di Sardegna 2006 ~ Was $14.99...NOW $12.99Straw yellow in color with green highlights. Subtle, intense and delicate on the nose with clean varietal characteristic. Delicate and pleasantly refreshing on the palate. Recommended with antipasti, pasta and fish courses. This wine consistently receives high scores!
Connoisseurs Corner:
Siduri Pinot Noir Sonoma County 2006 ~ Was $29.99...NOW $26.99By focusing solely on Pinot Noir from the most prestigious vineyard sites in California and Oregon, and by vinifying each barrel separately by lot, clone, yeast and copper, Siduri champions individuality of place and intensity of flavor in each wine they produce. WOW! This wine is a steal at 27 Bucks, our clear favorite of Siduri's appellation wines. Really nice floral nose, with a classic red-fruit flavor profile, tart red cherries and strawberries. Great balance, full and broad on the palate, finely textured and pleasing medium finish.

REDS
2006 Cono Sur, Pinot Noir
Was $11.99 ~~ NOW $9.99
This Chilean winery is taking their journey into Pinot Noir so seriously, that they have created an entire independent wing of their winery dedicated exclusively to this grape. Started in 1999, they have moved forward from their initial goal of producing the finest Pinot Noir in Chile, to making a French-style Pinot Noir to take on the world. Hand harvested, and individually checked, the whole clusters of grapes are then actually crushed manually… with feet! Gravity (not pumps) then takes the wine to the barrel room, where it spends 14 months in French oak. The wine has a lively, purple-red color, aromas of cherry, raspberry, plum, strawberry & just a little smoke. Soft, velvety textured flavors of sweet fruit lead to a long, balanced & structured finish with fine tannins.
2005 Chateau de Brondeau,
Bordeaux
Was $21.99 ~~ NOW $17.99
Robert Parker recommends not only this vintage from Bordeaux, but also some of the "lower pedigree", Merlot-based wines because of the depth & quality of the vintage, and the fact that they will be drinkable sooner. 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon tell you that this wine will have much more depth & complexity than most Merlots though… This wine is ready to drink now, but will continue to improve for the next 3 years or so. You will be rewarded if you decant it before serving as well… It is an intense, bright & opaque, ruby red in color. The aromas are subtle, and will reveal themselves more fully with a little swirling of your glass, but wow… There's a lot going on in here! Cherry, plum, black currant, blackberry, raspberry… Vanilla? Black pepper? Wait… roses, violets & licorice too! These aromas carry through to smooth, velvety, concentrated flavors with a light acidity, followed by a long elegant finish.
2005 Pannaroz, Jumilla
Was $10.50 ~~ NOW $8.99Wow! A 90 point rated wine from Robert Parker for under $10?!? A blend of Mouvedre, Grenache & Syrah, this wine is an inky, purple-red color with big, sweet aromas of blackberries, cherries, chocolate, and a little earth. Fruity & medium-bodied with a long finish, this wine is a steal!
2006 Reds, by Laurel Glen
Was $9.99 ~~ NOW $8.99This red blend is always a quality wine, and a great value. For 2006, it worked out that the wine was comprised of 1/3 Zinfandel, 1/3 Petite Sirah, and 1/3 Carignane. A very dark reddish-purple, the wine has fresh, fruity aromas of plums, berries & cherries, with just a touch of warm spice. Full, ripe flavors of blackberry from the Zin are balanced with a white pepper zing from the Carignane. The Petite Sirah keeps the jammy character of the Zin under control, adds a subtle black pepper, contributes heavily to the darkness of color, and really kind of pulls the whole blend together. This wine cries out for grilled meat, so pick up a few bottles for that first BBQ!

RED

Hailing from Apulia in the "heel" section of the "boot" that is southern Italy, this hearty red wine is made by Cantine Menhir, whose winemaking and bottle ageing facilities are located in a grand 18th century palace that is actually a few mere kilometers from the Greek coast. Negro Amaro is a very old, indigenous Italian grape that many think is somehow related to America's Zinfandel grape, although wines made from Negro Amaro tend to be a bit more dry. This is a bright concentrated wine that tastes of wild blackberries & ripe plums with a long, velvety finish. Another under-appreciated grape forced upon you by the staff at The Jug!

WHITE
2006, Adegas Morgadio, Albarino
This is a consistently excellent, balanced and refreshing wine. Coming to us from Spain, this Albarino has a beautiful, bright, straw-yellow color, with lofty citrus aromas along with quince & a subtle mineral. This wine surprises us a bit with an acidic zing & even a hint of effervescence. Flavors of lemon, pear & quince lead you to a ripe tangerine. The wine is keenly focused, with a persistent taste of lime zest on the finish. A very well made wine that is equally marvelous on it's own, or when served with a wide variety of foods.
Retial $14.99
Jug Clubbers Pay $12.74!
