WHITE

Sitios de Bodea "Con Class" Rueda
2005 ~ Spain
Regularly $9.99 ~ Sale $8.99
80% Verdejo, 10% Viura and 10% Sauvignon Blanc. Medium straw-colored, it reveals aromas and flavors of melons and citrus in a refreshing style. This excellent value offers surprising complexity for a wine of its humble price.

Baileyana Chardonnay
2004 ~ California
Regularly $23.99 ~ Sale $19.99
It has bright tropical fuit flavors and a lsight lemony character, but it is also full, rich and round.

Domain de la Cadette Bourgone Blanc
2004 ~ France
Regularly $15.99 ~ Sale $13.99
Lovely cool-climate chardonnay, vinified without the use of new oak. A mini-Chablis, if in any sense this wine is 'mini.' Firm, dry, with hauntingly creamy fuit that shispers rather than shouts.

REDS

Aries Merlot
2001 ~ California
Regularly $11.99 ~ Sale $9.99
Certified Organic! Jammy fuit fills this wine, redolent of dark cherries and plums that play off the bright acidity and mild tannins. Accents of oak and herbs play around the fuit adding complexity and varietal character.

Baileyana Syrah
2003 ~ California
Regularly $23.99 ~ Sale $19.99
A subtle interpretation of bright, fresh fruit and stony tannins, this wine stays cool while black peppercorn flavors and floral scents expand into a beautiful finish.

Castle Rock Pinot Noir Sonoma
2006 ~ California
Regularly $12.99 ~ Sale $10.99
This elegant well-balanced wine offers aromas of red fruit and spice. On the palate, there are flavors of plum and cherry with oak nuances, and the finish is long and harmonious. An unreal price on Sonoma Pinot Noir!

May Jug Club Wines

For all you wonderful Jug Club Members, this is what's in store for you this month...

WHITE
2005 Beckmen Vineyards "Le Bec Blanc" Purisima Mountain Vineyard
Retail $15.99 ~~ Jug Club Members $13.59
This is only the second vintage of this wine, and it promises great things to come! A nifty blend from the Central Coast region of Californa, it is comprised of 53% Roussanne, 37% Marsanne and 10% Grenache Blanc (a grape used very little in the States). Packed with complex aroma, including a toasty peach, and loaded with flavors of honeyed stone fruits, red apple, a little "nuttiness and a hint of pepper (from the Roussanne). Full bodied with a lush, tongue-coating texture and great structure, the acidity is also lively enough to give it some zip. This wine is gorgeous now, but believe it or not, this white can age! It will continue to develope over the next 6-8 years. This wine commonly retails for $20...but not here at the Jug!!!

RED
2005 Panarroz Jumilla
Retail $10.50 ~~ Jug Club Members $8.93
This wine is similar to our very first Jug Club red wine, The Stump Jump. The Stump Jump is an Australian wine comprised of mostly Grenache, followed by Shiraz (aka Syrah) and Mouvedre, while the Panarroz Jumilla is a Spanish wine of mostly Mouvedre, followed by Grenache and Syrah. The vineyards are located in the Jumilla region of Spain and are planted between 980 to 2,800 feet. 24 hour temperature swings can be from 40 to 105 degrees daily! This, combined with the fact that the vineyards are planted on steep slopes in a soil comprised of chalk, sand and shale, means that these vines are hearty and they produce very concentrated fruit. All of the vineyards cover a combined 754 acres, with half of that being planted to Mouvedre, which is mostly 50 years old. The wine itself is medium bodied with black fruits and a little leather. It's big, spicy, deep and sort of "rustic." We think it just SCREAMS for a steak! This puppy's ready to go, ubt it will hold on for a couple of years, should you desire to add it to your cellar!

And...we're back!

Thanks for hanging with us while we were out! We've lost many of our blogs, but we think the problem is fixed and should not happen again...

So, without further ado...
